I thought I'd start this off with a gentle little grumble,
Public buses. I have used them on an almost daily basis for six years. I have suffered the overcrowding, the lateness, the cancellations, the deranged boy-racer drivers, not without complaint but I have managed. Until today. I patiently waited for a bus to arrive (ten minutes late but that is beside the point) it did, I ascended and requested a day ticket- approximately £3.20 and offered the driver a ten pound note.
Instead of accepting my legal tender and dispensing my ticket with good grace he refused to do so citing that he 'Didn't have any change.' He then went onto suggest that I vacate the bus and wait for the next one.
I think not.
I want to reiterate at this point that I offered to pay for my ticket, the buses had been running for several hours at this time- there is not feasible way in which he could not have had sufficient change. In addition I'm pretty certain this is somewhat ILLEGAL.
However, worry not this has a happy ending for once,
I proceeded to pour out the stockpiled collection of coppers from my purse and scrape together the two pounds required for a one-way ticket. The driver had fun sorting through all that.
